John Innes:

Potting compost range

The John Innes compost range is widely referred to throughout horticultural text books, magazines etc and is the benchmark in the industry for high quality loam based composts. Loam based composts are less likely to dry out, less prone to saturation and are easier to re-wet when they do dry out.

The John Innes range is numbered, each compost number being a different mix, designed for a specific group of plants. John Innes No 1 for example is suitable for seedlings and cuttings, with added sand for excellent drainage. John Innes No 3 is for established conaitner plants and has far more fertiliser in it than John Innes No 1.
