The shoots and leaves of Cistus x purpureus are sticky and fragrant. They are mid-green in colour. This evergreen shrub flowers during early and mid summer, the flowers have tissue-paper thin petals that are deep pink with purple markings at the base of each petal. Each flower only lasts for one day but there are many, many flowers, especially if planted in a sunny position. Cistus x purpureus is a hybrid produced from a cross between C. ladinifer and C. villosus.
