This slow growing shrub with small, rounded, dark green leaves is often used to create a low growing hedge or parterre (pictured) and can also be used for small examples of topiary such as balls, pyramids, cubes or even spirals.

This plant can easily be maintained by regular clipping/pruning and is best clipped in late or mid summer and late spring. After clipping the plant would benefit from the application of a balanced, slow release fertiliser.

Box like the sun, but excessive sun and dry conditions can contribute to poor growth and may result in scorched leaves. If the plant is in sandy soil, consider locating it to a spot in partial shade, not full sun.

The sap from this plant may cause irritation to the skin.
